Military and veterans issues lead the Sunday television talk shows this Memorial Day weekend, with Defense Secretary Leon Panetta headlining ABC’s “This Week.”
CNN’s “State of the Union” has Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), chairwoman of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, former Army Vice Chief of Staff retired Gen. Peter Chiarelli, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America founder and Executive Director Paul Rieckhoff, and American Legion Legislative Director Tim Tetz.
This fall’s elections also remain front and center Sunday, with Robert Gibbs, a senior adviser for President Barack Obama’s reelection campaign, and Ed Gillespie, a senior adviser to the presumed Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney stopping by CBS’s “Face the Nation.”
CBS also has Sen. Dick Lugar (R-Ind.), who lost in an upset primary last month to Indiana state Treasurer Richard Mourdock.
CNN has, as well, the Democratic National Committee chairwoman, Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
Wasserman Schultz is also on C-SPAN’s “Newsmakers,” interviewed by Alexis Simendinger of RealClearPolitics and Felicia Sonmez of The Washington Post.
NBC’s “Meet the Press,” also focuses on this fall’s elections with former Republican presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich and Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, chairman of the Democratic Governors Association.
And its political roundtable includes Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, chairman of the Democratic National Convention, and Carly Fiorina, the former Hewlett-Packard CEO who is a vice chairwoman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
